The Shatterpoint Statement on Journalistic Integrity

In the past handful of weeks, reporting has come to light exposing that multiple high follower new media accounts that claim to be “independent sources” have been receiving kick backs, or “donations”, from elected officials in order to paint a specific political narrative about the officials, the work of the Democratic party, and idealogical (values) agendas.

Using Substack and YouTube, these accounts have been able to amass millions of followers, and earn significant income off of running these tainted stories.

Taking bribes from Democratic officials to only cover them in a positive light is the definition of having zero journalistic integrity. It is no different than the dozens of GOP and MAGA “media influencers” who were caught taking funds from Russian media entities in order to cover political stories from a specific bias.

Getting paid to spread Disinformation, and then presenting yourself as an independent journalist, writer, or educator is a nail in the coffin of trust and safety between us as writers, and you as our reading constituents (members).

The Shatterpoint is a fully independent media source, and while we are user funded, receive 0 political or corporate donations, or align our coverage with the specific agenda of any elected official, current or past. And we always will be.
